Gateway Methodist Church Our History The idea of planting a church in the new suburbs of Durbanville came in 2005 after Durbanville Methodist Church ran a “40 Days of Purpose” campaign. Despite phenomenal development in the area east of the proposed R300, only one established church existed, with two small churches meeting in a crèche and a school hall. It was felt at the time that the Church of Jesus needed to have a greater presence in that community and that together with the three existing congregations, those homes and families needed a caring Christian presence in their midst. The Durbanville Methodist Congregation was approached and an almost unanimous response was—"go for it"! So with the support of the Bishop, Superintendent Minister and local congregation, plans forged ahead. No public places existed to meet. The Baptist Church in Goedemoed was approached and with great Kingdom vision, agreed to allow us to meet in their church hall on Sunday evenings. After several monthly meetings, it was decided that from 1st June 2006, about 25 people would begin meeting each Sunday, and so ‘Gateway’ was born. As you can see we are really new born, which means we need many more people like you to grow our ministry and our service to the local community! Our Mission Our Vision |
